I had just come off of short term disability only for two days to get approval for surgery. It was on Wednesday and I was to have a pre approval from a Cardiologist on Friday so I could have surgery. I didn’t want to leave my company in a bind so I figured I could be of some help for a few days before surgery. I have been with my company 15 years. They laid me off at 10:30 am the morning I went back. All of the company members involved in this knew I was to have surgery. You can’t even have surgery and be unavailable for a job to collect unemployment. They could have given me the time for surgery and then done what they needed. I gave them 15 years of very hard dedicated work. This was cruel. Thanks a lot USA TODAY! Well … it didn’t shock me but the timing was malicious. It was 60 to 70 hours week to and I never complained, because I told my wife that it was better to have the money now rather than later than not having any at all. It made me realized that you have your own destiny in these times of CRISIS and that you are in command. ANOTHER STEVE: I did not came back at my old job as a contractor because of my pride and it was not my problem anymore, they had to deal with it when when told me that my services were not required were all files were DESTROYED within 1 hour as soon I got home, hint just bill them regardless of what you have even if it is the ABC tell them that it is code and that you are not require to explain to them because it is very complex.....and if they ask you tell them that you are not an employee anymore you can just (just give them the round around) because the one who needs your brains it is them, from the moment you get laid off you are an independent contractor!!!! why should I worry when they don't care about me or my family I am just number for profit and my family it is just a cassualty!!!!
