Three weeks into short term disability for a broken foot (my right foot), my disability payments were cut off. In spite of tons of documentation provided to the disability company from my Orthopedic Surgeon, I was told I had to return to work and that if I did not return immediately, it would be considered “abandonment” of my job. I returned on a Monday, removing the cast to drive with a broken foot. After greetings from my manager and what appeared to be a friendly chat, I was asked to step into his office where there was an HR rep waiting to tell me they were letting me go because my position was “being eliminated.” Several of my fellow admins have been let go the exact same way, only to be replaced by the temps that were filling in during their absence.
