Fired while on Maternity leave
I was director of nursing for a home healthcare franchise that is independently owned and operated. I left for maternity leave at the beginning of March and had a C-section to deliver my twin babies. I was scheduled to be off work for 8 weeks due to the C-section. I received a phone call from the owner at 6 1/2 weeks into my leave. He wanted to discuss my “return”. About half way thru the conversation I realized there would be no “return”. He actually had the audacity to tell me that he might not have enough money to pay his mortgage! What about my mortgage and the fact that I just added 2 more babies to the family? He said he just couldn\’t guarentee me hours anymore but I could come back on a commission basis if I wanted. So, basically he wanted me to do his job with the marketing, because he sucks at it. With a 6 person family, I cant afford a commission based job. Of course, since the company has less than 50 employees, I couldn\’t report him to the Dept of Labor for FMLA violation.
