Never Have an Accident !!
I just thought mine should be added as one of the many survivors in a sad catalog of lay-offs.
One morning in October 2007 I awoke in a hospital bed with my 1 1/2 year old son at my side. Not knowing that I was in a debilitating car accident on the way to work that day. My son was fine but I on the other hand, I had many injuries. For the next 5 months I was confined to a wheel chair. I was rehabilitated and called to tell my work that I was back and ready for action. Only to be told over the phone that my position as an administrative secretary was gone! Wow, what a blow when you have been off 5 months and just talked to everyone including the owner about coming back and the day you are ready there is “no more position”. I guess that old saying from my parents “No one is irreplaceable” was true!! It worked out for the better though; about one month from the lay off we found out we were pregnant and now have a wonderful baby girl and I am a stay at home mom. So I guess, a very bad thing can have a happy ending. Sad but true, I still miss my old job.
