Laid Off while in Hospital

I was laid off while recovering from injuries suffered on the job. I worked for a major city fire department and was injured after a building collapsed while I was on the roof fighting a fire. While I was in the hospital, in traction, they came in and gave the laid off notice. Since my arms were in casts and traction they put the notice on my pillow next to my head. Thanks alot guys.

Firefighters are unionized where I live. Also, if you were in hospital while reovering from work related injury, you were dismissed wrongfully. This means that what they did was illegal.

This may be the coldest thing I’ve ever heard. I’d like to know what was going through the mind of the guy who did the deed. I think if I ever had to do that I’d either say no or go out and get drunk afterward, or both. I hope the previous poster is right…take their ass to court.

    Answers to your questions,
1.) there was a legal fight, with I lost because they paid me workers comp while recovering.

2.) They forced one of my best friends on the dept.,to give me notice, he was a captain, they made him an acting district chief for the day and send him to hospital or face charges. I forgrave him, don’t shoot the messenger.
