Dear Jeanette Jackson: Imagine my surprise when I saw your post here! I tried calling you at your cell number just recently and heard your outgoing voicemail and left a message or two to no avail. Maybe that # is somehow no longer valid? Anyway, try me at a_athanas@hotmail.com. Happy trails!

Dear Conspired Against: That definitely sounds like what went on. Sometimes this happens to employees who are super talented and super articulate, BECAUSE they are articulate, etc. Sometimes a company becomes aware that they have committed an illegality against an employee, and if that employee is "too smart," they get paranoid and look for ways to cut them off, hoping to be successful before that employee realizes what is really behind the layoff. I think you should get a lawyer.

I went through a similar experience with a job 5 yrs ago. I was a contractor in at a federal agency. I dedicated 7 yrs of my life working hard for the agency. I stayed even though people that I trained were getting promoted ahead of me. I loved the job dearly and was absolutely crushed when I was let go on. It took me several years to move on. My employment record since then has been up and down. I haven't been able to find a place where I connected with co-workers since. I often wonder what my life would be like today if I was still there.

This story is heartbreaking. It's always deplorable to find an excuse to terminate someone's employment simply because you don't like them, but doing that in this job market is truly despicable.
