Note on my windshield: “No Severence” …and no job.
I worked for 17 years as an Executive Assistant to the company’s creative VP. We were hired at the same time, and always worked very closely together. We were working on a HUGE presentation, and we were in the office until after 1am. As we were leaving, my boss told me not to come in until noon. When I went to my car the next day, my office had been packed in boxes and placed on my hood. My final check was under the wiper blade…NO SEVERANCE…with a post it on it that said “yesterday was your last day”! As a matter of fact, my last day was a Thursday, and so I wasn’t even paid for the week. I was devastated, terrified, and depressed. My boyfriend was so upset, he decided to take a week’s vacation, and he took me to Chicago. We had a wonderful time, no cells, no work, just us.
When I got home, I had several messages from my ex-boss telling me that he needed me to come in as the presentation had to be re-worked. The messages became more and more aggressive, but I didn’t bother answering because I NO LONGER WORKED FOR HIM! When I applied for unemployment, he said I had quit, but luckily, I had actually saved the pay stub of my last check along with my termination post it. So, at least I have that!

This is certainly one of the most heartless layoff stories I have heard. Good luck.

I hope things are looking up for you. It is rough being let go but in such an unproffesional manner. I was let go on a Monday morning with a pack up and go, so I at least had time to pick up my things.
I am currently in school and spreading the word about legal help at an affordable rate to make ends meet.
Take a look and let me know if I can help you.
