I can relate to what you are saying. I just got laid off this week. No warning or any sign. I worked for a small software company and management even told us we were doing well. My former boss calls to tell me that they are downsizing due to the economy. I have now learned that you should never let your guard down, always keep looking even if you think your job is safe. I agree with you that you should never get comfortable in a place.

I can relate to being let go from a law firm. I was fortunate to find a job in a law firm after being laid off from a vendor during the early spring of this year. My job for working at the firm was short lived, as I was let go by the firm a couple of weeks before my probationary period of three months was up. I never received a verbal or written warning about my work performance. I was told that I was let go due the lack of confidence the attorneys had in my work. It sucks, that no one was honest enough with me to let me know I was doing something wrong in the first place. I feel your pain.
