The company is losing business, but continually hires less experienced (cheaper) staff? Then they lay off the older, more experienced (more expensive) staff? ... and all for "appearances"?

It won't be long before they open an office in Bangalore to "keep up appearances". It's funny how much more aesthetically pleasing inexpensive labor is to people who don't care about quality. But then, what do you expect from bean counters?

Sigh. Me too. I graduated summa cum laude and passed the CPA exams. What a flop so far.

Sadly, I did not work for a big four firm. I actually wanted to see my wife so I worked for a regional firm. Big 4 may still be the place to get experience, but for us lowly individuals who did not buy into 70 hour work weeks it is getting worse. I understand the sentiment, but not all accountants have big 4 dreams and are completely in ti for the money. I have always had a knack for accounting and thought it would be a good career. Per my post above, not everything works out as planned.

Well I would cheer up, my company loves anyone with Big 4 experience, anytime the company that audits us releases someone my company is chopping at the bit to hire them.

All of us with 10 plus years experience, MBA's, CPA's we all just sit around and wait for the next round of terminations, as they move towards a company whose sole purpose is to have a corporate accounting staff with audit experience regardless of the fact if they can do the day to day work to support our business units.

They "Do What They Say".
